This is an exceptional, collector-grade example of late 19th / early 20th-century English earthenware produced at the famous Railway Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Featuring the highly sought-after "Royal Kew" design, this dish showcases a signature pale vellum blush ivory background with a delicate gradient transition into warm cream tones.
The center is decorated with a vibrant, multi-tone transfer pattern featuring soft purple and pink orchid-style flora accented by hand-painted pale yellow blossoms. The elegantly ruffled, scalloped shell edge is heavily accented with detailed, sponged gold gilding.
Important Design Note for Collectors:
The standout feature of this piece is its ornate, molded branch-style handle. The handle is meticulously sculpted to resemble a stylized log or coral branch. Please note that the white sections on the handle are not damage or chips—they are completely factory-finished, molded, and glazed matte bisque elements designed to create a beautiful, intentional texture contrast against the polished gold gilding. The handle is 100% physically intact and smooth to the touch.
Backstamp Markings:
The underside features the crisp, brown printed S. Fielding & Co. crown-and-lion backstamp used between 1891 and 1913, explicitly marked "S.F. & Co. Royal Kew, England". It also retains the original hand-painted red gilder/artist mark "α 3" and an impressed mark tracking its original Edwardian factory decoration.
